Beauty was a Savage Garden

Chapter 1
Celine sighed and looked at the clock. Maybe there’s traffic and he’s still on his way, she thought. But traffic at midnight? Let’s not be silly. She dug into her purse and got together change for a payphone. She walked to the payphones, dropped the coins in, and dialed her damned boyfriend’s number. This hadn’t been the first time he’s failed to pick her up and she was fed up. After a few rings, he finally answered.
“Uhhhh, hello?” he snorted with food in his mouth. Celine rolled her eyes.
“Did you forget something?” she huffed, putting her free hand on her hip. Before he could answer someone spoke behind him.
“Who is it, Nick?” the person asked. It was obviously a girl.
“Who is that?!” Celine asked, shocked. She got a terrible feeling.
“Look, Cel, I’ve been meaning to tell you. This is Tatom. She’s an aerobics instructor at the gym and we’re in love. We’re moving to Florida,” Nick explained. “I’m sorry. Bye.” And with that, he hung up. Celine hung up and rested her head against the wall, breathing deeply. Then she gathered her things and left the club. Her stomach ached at the thought of what just happened.
“I’m better off without him,” she told herself for the hundredth time as she stood on the corner. No vacant taxicabs had passed. Everyone gets to go home safely to his or her loved ones except for me…
“Excuse me, miss. Do you need a ride?” someone interrupted her thoughts. She looked over and saw a sleek black car stopped in front of her with the driver peering out of the open window. She couldn’t see him too well but his voice sounded rather kind for someone in New York. Without thinking, she accepted.
“Sure,” she sighed. She walked to the passenger side and got in. The radio was on but it was too low to hear what song was playing. There was the sweet smell of cologne in the air, obviously from the man.
“Where you headed?” he asked. He had a rich Aussie accent.
“It doesn’t matter anymore,” she said softly. The man just nodded and started driving. Celine sad tense for a while, staring down at her hands which lay on her lap. Then she lowly looked over and studied her driver. He had spiked black hair and a round, pale face, like a cherub’s. Innocent. He was clad in a tight black shirt and black pants. Noticing she was staring at him, he looked ever. His eyes were a gray-blue. Rather hypnotic, like two tunnels sucking you in…
“What’s your name?” he asked, turning those gorgeous eyes back to the road. Pity.
“Celine,” she answered uneasily, sliding her own hazel gaze back to her hands.
“Darren here…” he said. He smiled sweetly to Celine, who smiled back nervously, and then he raised the radio up.
How long IS this ride? Celine thought to herself.
“Not long, dear. Not much longer at all,” the ebon-haired driver answered, as if reading her thoughts. Celine was starting to worry that this was a bad idea. Sigh…
Chapter 2
When they finally parked, Darren got out and opened the door for Celine. How sweet. She could see a large apartment building across the street. There was a dark figure looking out of one lit window. It was looking down at them. Darren looked up at the figure, mouthed something, and started walking towards the building. Celine hesitantly followed. Darren buzzed the button for his apartment.
“Help me, I’m trapped inside this little box,” a voice said over the intercom. Aussie accent too, but a tad British.
“Stop watching that bloody movie and let me in,” Darren said, rolling his eyes.
“Whhhyyyy?” the voice asked in a mocking tone.
“Because I don’t have my keys,” Darren said. “And if you don’t, I’ll use your guitar as fire wood.” After a long pause, the buzzer rang, signifying that the door was unlocked. Darren grinned slyly and opened the door. Stepping into the elevator, Celine let out a shaky sigh. Darren pressed the button and leaned against the wall, crossing his arms. Celine tensed under his gaze. An uncomfortable silence settled between the two.
Why are you always doing this? She scolded herself. It always leads to trouble.
The elevator dinged and opened. Taking Celine’s hand, Darren led her to the door at the end of the hall. Grinning, he opened the door, revealing the spacious, posh apartment. The living room was mostly black with white carpeting. The couches were black with white throwpilows and there was a small TV across from them, which seemed rather cheap in contrast to the rest of the room. Most impressive. As Celine looked around, she noticed someone standing at the doorway of a bedroom. He was very tall compared to Darren and herself. He had dirty-blonde, almost brown, hair and his complexion was pale too, but not as tall as Darren. He was simply clad in a blue, fluffy bathrobe.
“For goodness sake, Daniel, put some bloody clothes on! We have company!” Darren exclaimed, putting an arm around Celine.
“Sorry,” the blonde said, walking over. He took Celine’s hand and kissed it gently. “Pleasure to meet you.”
“A pleasure indeed,” she grinned. He grinned back and looked her up and down with deep green eyes. They were almost as passionate as Darren’s.
I can be much more passionate than Darren, my dear.
Celine blinked and gave him a confused look. He just grinned wider.
“Well we best go in. Don’t want to be standing in the hall way like a couple of nuts,” Darren said uneasily, nudging Celine. Daniel took her hand again and led her in, followed by Darren who had an envious look on his face.
“Do you want something to drink? Tea perhaps?” Daniel asked as he sat down next to Celine.
“Sure. I’m still cold,” she said, nodding. Darren was just about to sit down when Daniel grabbed his arm.
“Can you get some tea for us, Daz?” he asked. Darren was about to protest but Daniel gave him puppy-dog eyes and he sighed, nodded, and headed to the kitchen. Celine looked over and smiled.
“So, where are you guys from? Australia, right?” she asked, leaning back into the comfortable soft-leather couch.
“Yep, but I’m really from England,” Daniel answered with a nod. She was right after all. “What about you?”
“Me? Oh, I just come from around here. My family is from Canada,” she responded.
“Canada, eh?” Daniel joked in that same mocking voice as before, nudging her. She giggled and playfully pushed him. But looking up she realized Darren standing there with a serving tray and three cups of tea on it, watching them silently.
“Here you go,” he said, setting the tray down on the coffee table. He sat down on the couch across from them with his cup of tea and looked at Celine. “So you’re Canadian?”
“Yes, I am. And you’re Australian,” she said, smiling.
“Obviously,” he grinned. They all laughed a little and sat quiet for a few minutes, drinking their tea. Darren felt uneasy with the silence and started humming “Santa Monica” to break it.
“Savage Garden…” Celine pointed out quietly. The two looked up and gave her questioning looks. “You were humming Savage Garden. I know because my sister is always listening to them.”
“Well,” Daniel said, grinning at Darren. “We are Savage Garden. Didn’t you notice?”
Celine blinked and looked at the two for a moment. “Oh god, I’m sorry I didn’t. I just never really paid attention to how they…er…you looked.”
“It’s okay, love,” Darren chuckled, sipping his tea. “Would you like to watch some TV?” The other two nodded and he turned it on.
“Hey look, Interview with the Vampire is on,” Daniel pointed out a channel Darren had already missed. Darren flipped a few channels back and grinned excitedly.
“I love this movie! The book is great too,” he explained to Celine. She smiled and nodded.
“Me too! Brad Pitt looks SO cute!” she grinned.
“That girl was in one of our videos,” Daniel announced proudly, pointing to Kirsten Dunst, who played a girl named Claudia.
So on they went, watching the movie and drinking tea (which Darren obediently fetched more of on Daniel’s request). Though this wasn’t exactly an exciting night, Celine felt good that she had a place to stay, since she normally lived with her “boyfriend”, and two cute blokes to cheer her up. Of course, she hadn’t breathed a word about the reason she was out on the street in the first place, but she had a feeling they understood. But it was 2 AM and her eyelids grew heavy with every passing second. Soon she dozed off into a silent sleep with her head rested against Daniel’s shoulder. He noticed this and smiled.
“Poor thing. She must be in pain after the break up,” he said softly, careful to not wake her up.
“Yeah…things like that are tough,” Darren agreed, implying the painful experience he’s had with break ups. “Best get her to bed. I’ll put her in my room if you don’t mind rooming with me tonight.” He gave Daniel a sweet smile.
“Do I ever?” Daniel grinned. Darren went over and picked the sleeping Celine up. He made sure he wouldn’t hit her head or feet on the doorway of his room and lay her down on the silk-clad bed. She stirred a bit and he froze, but she didn’t wake. Breathing a sigh of relief, he pulled the soft down-feather comforter over her and tiptoed out, shutting the light off.
“I’m going to hit the sack too, Dan,” he said, yawning.
“Okay. I’ll go check up on her before I go to bed. Good night, Daz,” he said, flashing that sexy smile of his. Darren grinned in return.
“Nighty-night, Jonesy,” he said and slipped into Daniel’s bedroom.
Chapter 3
Celine woke to the sound of rustling cloth and a few quiet cries of pain. She opened her eyes to see Daniel hastily closing the thick curtains, wincing as a few rays of light hit his green eyes and face, muttering “Ouch!” every once in a while. He soon caught on that she was awake and turned around to face her. He was still in that robe.
“Why good morning,” he yawned. He walked over and crawled onto the bed, sitting Indian-style in the middle of it.
“Morning…” she grumbled, rubbing her eyes. If it weren’t for the fact that she’d caught a glimpse of the light outside, she would think it were still nighttime because the light was shut out so well.
“Sleep well?” he asked, tilting his head to the side a little. She nodded and started to pull the comforter off of herself, but noticed she was wearing a big white t-shirt and a pair of rather big boxers.
“Did I change in my sleep?” she asked, confused.
“No. You looked uncomfortable in that dress, so I…er…helped you out,” he answered, smiling shyly. She smiled despite the awkwardness she felt about the fact that he undressed her and dressed her in her sleep. “Are you hungry?” he asked, interrupting her embarrassed thoughts.
“Starving,” she said, grinning. Daniel chuckled and helped her out of bed. They both walked to the kitchen and he opened the refrigerator up, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Whatcha want?” he asked, moving a few bottles around.
“Umm…cereal?” Celine wondered aloud, shrugging. Daniel’s face became a tad concerned.
“Cereal…right…umm…” he stammered, peering deeper into the huge refrigerator. “Well here’s the milk.” Just then, Darren stumbled out of Daniel’s bedroom in his clothes from the previous night, his black hair all messy.
“Morning people,” he grumbled, rubbing his eyes as Celine did. She smirked in amusement at this. He quickly went to close the heavy curtains of the living room window as it blew open a little, letting some sunlight into the apartment.
“Morning to you too, sleeping beauty,” Daniel grinned. “Um…where’s the cereal?”
“Over here, silly,” Darren said, walking over to a cabinet and pulling out a box of Corn Pops. “Fortunately, I’m always prepared for occasions like this.”
“We usually don’t have time to eat breakfast,” Daniel explained, laughing a bit nervously. Darren pinched his side and started pouring three bowls of cereal. Then, he set them on the table and sat down. After Daniel sat down, the three sat there eating in dead silence.
“So, I’m sorry about your breakup,” Darren said to break the silence. Daniel shot him an annoyed glare and his eyes widened when he realized what he said.
“What? How did you know?” Celine asked, giving them both confused looks.
“I…uh…you looked rather down. I can read people’s faces really easily,” Darren quickly saved. Daniel kicked him under the table and gave him a nasty look. He just shrugged helplessly.
“Right…well it’s no big deal. I’m better off without him,” she said, shrugging. The two musicians nodded in understanding.
“I had a bad breakup…a divorce actually,” he sighed, poking at his cereal with his spoon. He’d barely eaten any of it.
“Oh, that’s terrible. I’m sorry,” Celine said sympathetically. Daniel looked at his watch.
“God, it’s 8am. I’m going to go back to bed,” he sighed. He dumped out his bowl and headed back into his room. “Be good you too.”
“We will, Jonesy…” Darren grinned. He looked over at Celine. “Are you done?”
“Hmm? Oh, yeah,” she said. Darren grabbed her bowl and his and dumped both out, then threw the bowls in the sink
“We’ll have Daniel clean that up,” he laughed. Celine giggled and looked around.
“It’s very dark in here…why don’t you open some windows up?” she asked. Darren gave her an alarmed look.
“Well, I personally don’t like letting sunlight in. Silly little habit I picked up in Australia…you know, with the o-zone later stuff,” he explained. Clearing his throat, he quickly changed the subject. “Want to watch TV?”
Chapter 4
Later on in the day, around 5pm when the sun was setting, Darren and Celine were still vegetating in front of the TV and Daniel was still asleep, snoring away.
“He certainly sleeps a lot,” Celine giggled, hearing him snore. Darren laughed a little.
“Well, he went to sleep late…” he said slowly. Celine nodded.
“I see. I shouldn’t complain, I sleep a lot too,” she said.
“Yeah…I never liked sleeping too long. The world’s too exciting,” he said.
“Oh yeah, really exciting,” Celine giggled, pointing to a guy on the TV sleeping.
Another long silence found its home in the house. Even Daniel was quiet. Darren had his head rested on Celine shoulder and he was half asleep. Peering out a window that blew open, he could see the full moon. Grinning slightly, he lifted his head, taking a deep breath.
“You smell good…” he said softly. Celine gave him an odd look then grinned. She knew where he was getting. Nick had done the same thing. But did she really want to resist?
You know you don’t want to…
Putting a hand on the side of her face his kissed her neck gently. The feel of his lips sent shivers down her spine. Slowly, he turned her head and kissed her lips sweetly. She wanted to resist but how could she? Every cell in her body urged her to kiss back, so she did. They stayed locked in this for a while, then Darren pulled away, breathing a bit heavily.
“So beautiful…” he said, almost purring. He caressed her cheek gently. His hand was colder than before. Celine smiled and kissed him. He kissed back. Oh, did he kiss back. So deeply, so sweetly. Then he carefully started to push her back on the couch. Celine’s body immediately tensed. Her brain screamed at her to resist.
Don’t worry. I won’t hurt you.
Not a word was spoken, nor did his lips move away from hers, but she heard his voice. Soft and comforting, like a purr. It was no use. Letting herself be pushed down onto the couch, her body shivered at every touch. He was so gentle, running his hand down her side, still kissing her. At this point she was starting to doubt what she thought Daniel had said. Darren was more than passionate. Straddling her, he pulled away from the kiss, looking down at her with hungry eyes. His ebony hair was tousled, more than it was before, making him look oh so irresistible. Then he kissed her again, feverishly. He slid a hand under her back and pulled her close to him. She wrapped her arms around him, pressing her body against his. She couldn’t help but notice …ahem… Darren Jr. poking out. Sliding his hand under her shirt, Darren pressed against her, moving his sweet kisses down to her neck. Looking up he could see the full moon shine brightly through the window. He grinned almost happily (although we already know he’s quite happy already), his canines and second incisors extended into long fangs. Sliding his hands down her body, he moved down to her breasts, kissing one gently. She let out a soft moan. Grinning, he got up and flicked the TV and the light off, taking note of the long stream of blood that was running down her shirt. Ah, how Lestat inspired him. Two minutes later, a shrill cry of pain ripped through the silence. Daniel stumbled out of his bedroom and turned on the light to see Darren sinking his fangs into Celine’s wrist and covering her mouth with his hand.
“My god!” he said, surprised. Darren looked up.
“Daniel…” he said, dropping her wrist. She looked up at Daniel with fear filled eyes and a tear stained face.
“Daniel. Help me please!” she cried, holding her bleeding wrist. Darren gave him an almost embarrassed look. He just stood there, just looking between the two for a moment.
“Darren…I’m very upset with you,” he said. Darren’s eyes dropped down to the floor. “You almost finished her off without me.” He grinned and walked over to the sobbing girl.
“Don’t let me die, Daniel,” she whispered, crying. He slowly sat her up and straddled her lap.
“Shh…don’t worry, love,” he said, putting a finger on her lips. His own fangs soon extended as he kissed her neck. Without warning he grabbed hold of her hair and bit her neck fiercely. She let out a small whimper of pain but couldn’t scream. Daniel closed his eyes as he suckled from the wound in her neck, savoring the sweet metallic taste of her blood. Soon, Darren joined, returning to his work at her wrist. Then, slowly, Celine’s head fell to the side and both released her. Darren grinned and dropped her arm. Daniel got up and wiped the blood from his lips.
“That was certainly filling,” Darren said, putting a hand on his face to find it was a reasonable temperature. Daniel walked over to him.
“You always manage to keep it clean,” he chuckled, running a finger down Darren’s clean face.
“Yeah, too bad I can’t say the same for you,” he teased, pointing to the large bloodstain on Daniel’s shirt.
“Oh well. Why did you do it anyway? I mean, so soon…” he asked, taking off his bloody shirt.
“I don’t know. You were getting too comfortable with her, Jonesy…” Darren said.
“Aww, Dazzy. Were you jealous?” Daniel asked, putting an arm around him. Darren looked down.
“Maybe…” he said shamefully.
“Look, no matter who comes into this place, you’re always the top person on my list. But enough of that. I see you could use some help,” he said, pointing to Darren’s bulge. Darren looked down and blushed deeply. Daniel laughed and pulled him into the bedroom, kissing him deeply.
